Undergraduate Intern – OPS - Information Systems (Summer 2019)

Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation. Relocation housing and/or transportation allowance may be available for eligible candidates.

Amgen’s manufacturing facility in West Greenwich, RI is looking for students with outstanding academic records and demonstrated leadership capabilities. An internship at Amgen is a hands-on learning experience under the guidance of an Operations Manager. Interns are matched to meaningful and challenging projects. 
Participation as an intern has the potential to lead to an offer to join the Rotational Leadership Development Program or other entry-level full-time position upon college graduation in 2020, depending on available positions and an evaluation of your performance. 


Information Systems
This position provides the opportunity to work directly with Information Systems staff supporting bulk drug substance operations. 

Coaching, mentorship, and guidance will be provided to the intern as they engage in the following project:
·       Create a dashboard or data visualization that will provide business value to a business unit involved in the production of human therapeutics. This project will entail:
o  Gathering business requirements from a business unit to solve a problem or realize an opportunity. This will give the intern exposure to the business processes used by manufacturing, supply chain, or quality.
o  Document the report requirements and design, which will provide insight into IS procedures and the development lifecycle.
o  Create the dashboard or data visualization using an industry standard visualization tool, such as Spotfire or Tableau.
o  Rollout the report\visualization to the business unit and confirm that the planned business value was obtained.
 
Basic Qualifications:
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 

·       18 years or older
·       Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
·       Completion of at least one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
·       Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
·       Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications: 
·       Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science
·       GPA 3.5 or higher
·       Junior standing
·       Proven leadership experience on campus (e.g., projects, clubs, organizations, sports)
·       Knowledge of MS Office Applications (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
·       Familiarity with Spotfire and Tableau
·       Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management, problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills
·       Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and adaptability
·       Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or health care industry experience
