Undergraduate Intern – OPS - F&E Infrastructure Operations / Utilities (Summer 2019)

Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation. Relocation housing and/or transportation allowance may be available for eligible candidates.

Amgen’s manufacturing facility in West Greenwich, RI is looking for students with outstanding academic records and demonstrated leadership capabilities. An internship at Amgen is a hands-on learning experience under the guidance of an Operations Manager. Interns are matched to meaningful and challenging projects. 

Participation as an intern has the potential to lead to an offer to join the Rotational Leadership Development Program or other entry level full time position upon college graduation, depending on available positions and an evaluation of your performance. 

This position will provide the opportunity to work within the Facilities & Engineering Department at the Amgen RI Operations Facility. Coaching, mentorship, and guidance will be provided to the intern as they engage in the following projects:

·       Develop tool, using equipment information and system operating conditions from PI, to calculate cost per unit of various utilities generated/consumed (Water for Injection, chilled water, etc.) at the Amgen RI site. Tool would be annotated with assumptions, instructions and have capability for easy recalculation of values on periodic basis, and if possible be transferable between Amgen sites for replication.

 

·       Utilizing information in the PI Manual Logger Electronic Round and Readings application, develop trending and notification of system performance for the Department Managers & Reliability Engineers responsible for these systems.

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 

·       18 years or older

·       Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

·       Completion of at least one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

·       Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

·       Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications: 

·       Pursing a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Energy, Chemical, or Electrical)

·       GPA 3.5 or higher

·       Strong computer skills including knowledge of MS Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)

·       Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management, problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills

·       Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and adaptability

·       Proven leadership experience on campus (e.g., projects, clubs, organizations, sports)
